Four years building a Domo Center of Excellence at a Fortune 500 — PaaS deployment, 100+ departmental installations, 2,500+ users — and now it's time to freelance again.
Why It Matters
Independent consulting and in-house staff engineering are different jobs. The in-house role gives you depth, scale, and the political surface area to actually change how a platform is used. Freelancing gives you breadth and the ability to choose problems worth solving. Having done both is the differentiator — the COE work is the credential, not despite the full circle but because of it.
If you're a Domo practitioner evaluating a consultant, or a director trying to understand what "Domo platform strategy" actually means in practice, this conversation is for you.

The Work
datacrew.space was rebuilt not by writing a brief and handing it to a developer, but by having a conversation. The grill-me Claude Code skill asks questions until it understands what you actually want — your goals, your audience, your positioning — before generating a single line of code. The result is a site that reflects how Jae thinks, not what a generic agency template assumes.
The Stripe payment element addresses a real friction point: community content (YouTube tutorials, the Domo User Group Slack, open-source libraries) takes significant time to produce, and YouTube monetization doesn't work for niche audiences. The solution is a Stripe checkout flow that generates a proper invoice — not a donation, a business transaction the payer can expense on the company card. The line item: "Open source + community support — DataCrew." The Stripe MCP is doing the heavy lifting during development.
The webinar pipeline continues. In two weeks: MCP vs Skills — what's the difference, when do you use each, and what does the tooling landscape actually look like in 2026. Join the Domo User Group Slack to get notified.
The consulting practice is back and focused: Domo platform strategy, COE design, staff augmentation for teams that need someone who has done this at scale. The Sony engagement is the model — brought in as an engineer, ended up as the architect. That's the work worth doing.
